1 September 2023
Welcome to the August report of the 2023 outdoor shooting season.
Five new club records were shot during August and certificates were awarded to the following archers:
The club records will be reviewed against the age categories and round titles recently revised by Archery GB.
The following Classification Badges were awarded under the new Archery GB Classification Scheme:
More information on classification can be found here, or speak to me on a shooting night. You can start to shoot classification rounds once you have achieved your 20 yard 252 or AGB Progress award, and start working towards your first Archer Classification.
Archery GB have now released the revised Indoor classification scheme, a link to the new tables can be found on the rounds and classifications page on the clubs website.
Badges were awarded to the following archers:
More information on the two progress schemes, including the AGB Indoor Progress awards, can be found here, or speak to me at one of our club sessions.
The following scores were submitted, and as you can see from the results below the club is performing exceptionally well:
In August we had 2 walk overs, 5 wins and only one loss. So as a club you have performed very well again. Well done everyone who took part.
Jack & Neill have retained their titles as the highest scoring U16 Boys Recurve Archer and highest scoring Gents Longbow Archer with a score of 275, respectively.
After the fourth month, of the five month competition, the team standings are as follows:
Once again can I please remind you all that this is a monthly competition so we all need to be shooting our Warwick rounds for entry into the final round in September, the final day to shoot your round is Sunday 24th September. This is open to all club members who are currently capable of shooting the relevant distances.
Details of the competition can be found here.
Our teams are really well placed but we need your scores in order to keep the momentum up, and be in with a chance of winning a number of the Divisions.
The entry details for the DCAS winter postal competitions (Portsmouth & Frostbite) have been issued to the club and we will look to enter a mix of teams in both competitions to cover all bow styles. As with the summer postals these will be open to all club members, with the highest scores each month being submitted. Details will be posted on the website in due course.
A further large number of score sheets were submitted in August for this internal club competition, which means to date we have 19 people have taken part and will qualify for a medal.
The competition is open to all club members and we have decided to extend the closing date of the competition to Sunday 24th September to give people more time to submit a round, and be in with a chance to win one of the following medals.
The competition details can be found here, anyone with a 20 yard 252 or AGB Progress award, or above, can shoot a Windsor round and be in with the chance to win a Coronation medal.
The Windsor rounds are as follows:
Shooting a successful Windsor round will also go a long way towards an Archer Classification.
If you have any questions please talk to me at one of our club sessions.
Neill White was the sole club representative to make the trip down to Redruth Archers on the 6th August and bravely (lol) represented Yelverton Archers wearing a borrowed club top where “I’m not John” shot longbow in the 70m WA1440 round and scored his 2nd MB qualifying score of 542.
On August the 19th & 20th three Yelverton Bowmen archers took part in the Exmouth Archers World Archery Weekend. Iain Lees braved the early conditions on the Saturday in the Compound WA50 round and scoring a respectable 500 which earned him a White WA target badge.
Sunday saw Linda Wright and Neill White join Iain to shoot the WA1440 rounds.
Iain shot again a highly respectable 1154 in the Men’s Compound WA1440 and gained another 2 awards of the Black Star 1100 WA badge and a Blue DCAS FITA star – well done!
Linda came in 2nd in the Ladies Barebow WA1440 with 599 points.
Neill managed 3rd in the Men’s Longbow WA1440 with a qualifying MB 50+ score of 473. Neill has subsequently put in a claim for is Master Bowman Classification, well done Neill.
Another great showing at an external competition for Yelverton Bowmen Archers, the full report can be found here.
September marks the start of the indoor season and the club is in the process of reviewing the revised Archery GB Indoor classifications to determine what competitions will be run over the indoor season. Keep an eye on the website for details.
If you have any questions please talk to me at one of our club sessions.
