Just a quick reminder that Outdoor Archery GB awards are no longer being issued by the club. We have chosen to concentrate on the 252 Scheme for outdoor progress.
Competitions
DCAS Summer Postal 2025
The club has entered the following teams into the DCAS Summer Postal Warwick Leagues:
- One Senior & Junior over 16 Mixed (non-Compound) Long Warwick team
- One Senior & Junior over 16 Compound Long Warwick team
- One Senior & Junior over 16 Longbow Warwick team
- Two Senior & Junior over 16 Mixed (non-Compound) Warwick 50 teams
- One Junior U16 Mixed Style Warwick 30 team
There are three archers per team, and the club will collate the scores in descending order and the highest scores will be entered each month. Scores will need to be submitted on a club score sheet and signed as indicated. The rules for the competition can be found on the DCAS Postal Competitions page, and the associated score sheet on the Club Score Sheets page.
The following scores were submitted for the May (first) round of the competition:

In the first month of the competition all six of our teams won. However due to scores made by other teams they are not all in first place. The team positions after round one of five are as follows:
- Senior & Junior over 16 Mixed (non-Compound) Long Warwick team – 2nd place in Division 1
- Senior & Junior over 16 Compound Long Warwick team – 2nd place in Division 1
- Senior & Junior over 16 Longbow Warwick team – 1st place in Division 1
- Senior & Junior over 16 Mixed (non-Compound) Warwick 50 team ‘A’ – 3rd place in Division 1
- Senior & Junior over 16 Mixed (non-Compound) Warwick 50 team ‘B’ – 1st place in Division 3
- Junior U16 Mixed Style Warwick 30 team – 1st place in Division 1

Submission of a DCAS Summer Postal score sheet also gives you the opportunity to earn a Six Gold, Three Gold (Longbow) badge if you shoot the relevant score on the longest distance of your round. Yelverton Bowmen St Georges Day internal Competition (27th April)
The club once again hosted the St Georges Day competition by shooting Warwick rounds with archers shooting the round relevant to their 252 qualification.
15 archers took part and the following club medals were awarded by bow style:
- Longbow:
- Gold medal – Samantha Horton, scoring 177 (Warwick 40)
- Silver medal – Neill White, scoring 155 (New Warwick)
- Bronze medal – Arron Nuttall, scoring 90 (Warwick 50)
- Barebow:
- Gold medal – Parker Fewings, scoring 352 (Warwick 30)
- Silver medal – Phil Harley, scoring 271 (Warwick 50)
- Bronze medal – KT Pollington, scoring 246 (Warwick)
- Compound:
- Gold medal – Corey Richardson, scoring 380 (Long Warwick)

The competition was finished off with a dragon slaying fun round. Overall three new club records were shot.
Yelverton Bowmen Star Wars Day Competition (4th May)
The club hosted the inaugural Star Wars Day internal competition by shooting Long Metric with archers shooting the round relevant to their 252 qualification.
19 archers took part and the following club medals were awarded by bow style:

- Gold medal – Neill White, scoring 387 (Long Metric I)
- Silver medal – Samantha Horton, scoring 380 (Long Metric V)
- Bronze medal – Gary Wong, scoring 336 (Long Metric III)
- Barebow:
- Gold medal – John Pengilley, scoring 538 (Long Metric II)
- Silver medal – Barry Bailey, scoring 460 (Long Metric VI)
- Bronze medal – Phil Harley, scoring 454 (Long Metric III)

- Gold medal – Corey Richardson, scoring 628 (Long Metric II)
- Silver medal – Tim Hall, scoring 618 (Long Metric IV)
- Recurve:

The competition was finished off with an Empire slaying fun round. Overall thirteen new club records were shot, well done everyone.
South West and Wales University League Leg 7 – WA 900 (10th May)
Two Yelverton Bowmen student archers attended Leg 7 of SWWU in May, shooting a WA 900 round hosted by the University of Exeter.
Corey Richardson took the gold medal in the Compound Experienced Male category, with a score of 782, and Parker Fewings took a bronze medal in the Barebow Experienced Male category with a score of 288!

Exmouth Archers Double World Record Status 70m & 50m (11th May)
Five Yelverton Bowmen archers made the trip to Exmouth to shoot the Double WA 720 rounds in very testing conditions. Whilst the day started overcast, it soon turned to a period of heavy rain. This was followed by sunshine and brief showers.
Emma Broadhurst saw off some determined competition to win the trophy and gold medal in the Senior Women’s 70m Longbow. Neill white managed to come away with a silver medal finishing in second place in the Senior Men’s 70m Longbow.
John Pengilley finished in third place in the Senior Men’s 50m Barebow securing a bronze medal. Gary Wong finished in 5th place in the Senior Men’s 70m Longbow and Corey Richardson finished in 8th place in the Senior Men’s 50m Compound.

Redruth Archers 50th Anniversary Spring Tournament Day 1 (17th May)
In glorious conditions at Redruth nine Yelverton Bowmen archers took part in the York & Bristol rounds, with all bow styles represented.
- Longbow:
- Neill White won the Senior Mens Longbow York competition taking the Gold medal, with Gary Wong finishing in 5th place
- Emma Broadhurst won the Senior Women’s Hereford competition taking the gold medal.
- Recurve:
- Alex Rowe finished just outside of the medals in 4th place in the Senior Mens York
- Andy Howie came 1st in the Senior Mens Bristol 1
- Dan Baxter came second in the Senior Mens Bristol 3
- Ellen Lawrence came 1st in the Senior Women’s Bristol 4
- Compound:
- Iain Lees came 6th in the Senior Mens York
- Barebow:
- John Pengilley came 1st in the Senior Mens Bristol 1
- Lina Wright withdrew from the Senior Women’s Hereford.

Redruth Archers 50th Anniversary Spring Tournament Day 2 (18th May)
Again in glorious conditions at Redruth seven Yelverton Bowmen archers took part in the Double WA 70m & WA 50m rounds, with all bow styles represented.
- Longbow:
- Neill White came second the Senior Men’s Longbow 70m taking the Silver medal.
- Gary Wong finished in 4th place
- Recurve:
- Andy Howie came 10th in the Senior Men’s 70m
- Alex Rowe withdrew
- Compound:
- Barebow:
- John Pengilley came 1st in the Senior Men’s 50m
- Linda Wright 1st in the Senior Women’s 50m

South West and Wales University League Leg 8 – Outdoor Championships (18th May)
For the SWWU Outdoor Championships, three Yelverton Bowmen student archers travelled up to the University of Bristol to shoot a WA 720 round followed by Head-To-Heads.
On the Barebow side, Marilyn Wong seeded in 1st place with a score of 503, and Parker Fewings seeded in 7th place with a score of 211. For Compounds, Corey Richardson had to withdrew after just the third end due to an equipment failure, although being the only compound shooting at the event still collected SWWU League points for the University of Plymouth, resulting in an overall second place finish in the year-long league tables.
Moving to the Head-To-Head matches, Parker was knocked out in her first match by the second place seeded archer, 6-0. Marilyn won her matches 6-2, 6-2 and the gold medal match 6-0, opening the match with a 28 point end!

Brixham Archers UKRS Rose Tournament (25th May)
In variable wind at Brixham 3 Yelverton Bowmen archers took part in the York & Bristol rounds.
- Longbow:
- Gary Wong finished in 2nd place, securing the silver medal
- Barebow:
- John Pengilley came 1st in the Senior Men’s Bristol 1
- Lina Wright came 1st in the Senior Women’s Hereford.

As we have now moved outdoors, we will update the club Events page monthly with a list of target days.
As with last year we will rotate the rounds to include both metric and imperial rounds, and will give archers the opportunity to practice rounds in advance of external competitions
