We are excited to announce that Yelverton Bowmen will be hosting an internal competition for our members on Sunday 15th September 2024. In case of unfavorable weather, the event will be rescheduled to the following Sunday 22nd September.
The chosen round for this competition will be the Nationals round. Participants will shoot a total of 6 dozen arrows, with 4 dozen at the longer distance and 2 dozen at the shorter distance.
Rounds will be entered according to the current 252 classification at the time of entry. For example, if you have a 40 yards 252 qualification, you can enter up to the National 50 round.
Please return the entry form to Neill White.
25 February 2024
On Sunday the 25th of February 2024, more than 70 archers from across Devon, Cornwall and wider afield mustered at the YMCA in Plymouth for the Devon and Cornwall Archery Societies 46th Open Indoor Championship. Archers shot WA18m rounds over two sessions at this UK Record Status event, hosted by Yelverton Bowmen.
Whilst 18 clubs were represented in total, Yelverton Bowmen fielded 23 archers; almost 1/3 of the field, and shooting in all bow categories.
A great day was had by all those who took part and Yelverton Bowmen archers won several categories and medalled in all bow types.
Jenny Kerchey was the Lady Paramount for the event and handed out all of the trophies and medals.
The full tournament results can be found on IANSEO, the following section summarises the clubs results:
Yelverton Bowmen club members ensured the success of the event on the day by providing full support to the DCAS organisers and judging team, as well as running a significant raffle. This was further supported by a group of members who took time out from shooting at club nights to overhaul all of the target bosses etc. Your support to this event is greatly appreciated and was warmly recognised by Ann Gillbanks (DCAS Tournaments Officer) for ensuring that the day ran so smoothly.
Thank you to all those who gave up their time to help and well done to all archers who took part!
20 August 2023
Three Yelverton Bowmen archers gained entry into the Exmouth Archers hosted tournament between the 19th and 20th of August.
Iain Lees braved the early conditions on the Saturday in the Compound WA50 round and scoring a respectable 500 which earned him a White WA target badge. Results from day one can be found on Ianseo.net.
Sunday saw Linda Wright and Neill White join Iain to shoot the WA1440 rounds.
Conditions were somewhat better than the previous day with early rain giving way to sunshine in the afternoon and a packed shooting line with over 70 archers taking part.
Iain shot again a highly respectable 1154 in the Men’s Compound WA1440 and gained another 2 awards of the Black Star 1100 WA badge and a Blue DCAS FITA star – well done !
Linda came in 2nd in the Ladies Barebow WA1440 with 599 points and Neill managed 3rd in the Men’s Longbow WA1440 with a qualifying MB 50+ score of 473. Results from the second day can also be found on Ianseo.net.
It was another “good day out” for Yelverton Bowmen so hope to see more of us on the shooting line soon.
The next competition is the DCAS Autumn Gold hosted at Redruth Archers.
29 May 2023
Five Yelverton Bowmen archers took to the field in the Brixham Open Rose Competition on Sunday 28th May. The constantly changing wind and hot conditions made it challenging for all competitors who took part in the well organised event. The event was attended by clubs all over Devon and Cornwall, and included a full range of experience levels from Archery GB team members to one person who had been shooting for 12 weeks. Despite the changeable wind conditions all of our archers performed very well.
Jamie Pruden shot a Recurve Men’s Bristol II Round and despite only having his new arrows for a few weeks managed to score 908, with 142 hits and 36 golds. This further cements Jamie’s current Archer 1st Class status.
John Pengilley shot a Recurve 50+ Men’s Bristol III Round, and scored 1036, with 144 hits and 49 golds. This has set a new club record, and gives John 12 dozen arrows towards his Bowman 3rd Class status.
Corey Richardson shot a Compound U21 Men’s National Round and scored 550, with 72 hits and 35 golds, this was particularly impressive when you consider that Corey was shooting on the same boss as one of the Archery GB team members. Corey was presented with a medal and achieved six dozen arrows towards his Archer Class 1 status.
Linda Wright shot a Barebow 50+ Women’s Bristol II Round and scored 662, with 134 hits and 13 golds. This saw Linda presented with a competition medal, as well as achieving Black Rose badge, and gives Linda 12 dozen arrows towards her Bowman 3rd Class status.
Finally, Neill White shot a Longbow 50+ Men’s Hereford/Bristol I Round and scored 561, with 11 hits and 13 golds. This was a fantastic score and saw Neill presented with a competition medal, as well as achieving a Purple Rose medal (which is the highest possible). It also gave Neill his first score towards Master Bowman status. But above all that it also means that Neill can submit a claim for an Archery GB 50+ National Record, which currently stands at 547. Well done Neill, and I am sure the whole club wishes you well with your claim.
Phil Gillbanks, one of the judges on the day, said that he was glad to see Yelverton Bowmen coming to more competitions, and it would be good to keep that going. So if attending these competitions interests you please follow this link to the DCAS website where you can find a list of this seasons competitions.
The full results for the competition can be found on Ianseo.
