1 April 2025
Welcome to the March report of the 2024/25 shooting season. This is the final report for the 2024/25 indoor season.
The following Classification levels have been achieved, and badges are in the process of being awarded under the new Archery GB Classification Scheme.
More information on indoor and outdoor rounds and classification can be found here, or speak to me on a shooting night. You can start to shoot outdoor classification rounds once you have achieved your 20 yard 252, and start working towards your first Archer Classification.
Badges were awarded to the following archers:
252 Awards
AGB Progress Awards
More information on the two progress schemes can be found here, or speak to me at one of our club sessions.
Just a quick reminder that Outdoor Archery GB awards are no longer being issued by the club. We have chosen to concentrate on the 252 scheme for outdoor progress.

After attending BUCS Indoors Southern Qualifiers in February, Marilyn Wong and KT Pollington advanced to BUCS Indoor Finals, hosted by the University of Warwick.
In the qualification round, KT scored 403 on a WA 18m and seeded 15th. Marilyn scored 476, placing her 1st. Both archers compete in the Barebow Women’s category. These scores we high enough to qualify for the head-to-head rounds!
KT won their first match against the 2nd place seed with a set-point score of 6-2, before tightly losing the second round match at 6-4.
Marilyn’s path to the gold medal match consisted of wins of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-2, where she finished overall in 2nd place after a 6-4 defeat.

Two Yelverton Bowmen archers were part of the University of Plymouth’s team at SWWU’s Indoor Championships this month – SWWU’s largest ever event with 104 student archers!
In the Combined Barebow Experience category, Marilyn Wong seeded 3rd with a Bray I score of 217. Making it to the gold medal match with a route of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2 victories, Marilyn took the silver medal after a narrow 6-4 defeat against the top-seeded archer.
Corey Richardson took bronze in the Compound Experienced division after seeding in 4th place with a score of 266, winning the quarter-final match 136-131 but losing the semi-final match to the eventual winner 136-143. In a stroke of luck, his bronze-medal match opponent had to leave early, meaning any scoring arrow would win him the match, leading to a very unimpressionable score of 27-0!

Yelverton Bowmen archers Marilyn Wong and Parker Fewings made up 2 of the 3 members of the University of Plymouth’s A Team at BUTC 2025. The event consists of a three-archer cumulative Bray I ranking round followed by Beiter Hit or Miss head-to-head matches where the team of 3 archers has just 2 minutes to shoot 6 arrows (2 arrows per archer) at hit-or-miss spot just 60mm wide!
Plymouth’s A Team ranked 18th of 25 university teams and unfortunately closely lost their first head-to-head match 6-5 against Surrey’s A Team putting them out of the competition.
In the Repechage round, their match ended 5-5 against Northampton’s A Team, ultimately being decided by a loss in the shoot-off.

Running alongside the DCAS Portsmouth Postal and Frostbite Postal Competitions we are also running an internal club competition shooting Bray I rounds. The competition will run from the beginning of October to the end of March, and as such this means that all indoor shooting sessions during this period are considered to be club Target days. This means that archers will be able to shoot rounds and submit scores towards the Bowmen classifications.
Details for this competition can be found here.
The results are in. Unfortunately only 6 archers submitted qualifying scores for this competition, however the winner this year is………..
Paul Horsley with 7204 points, well done Paul. The trophy will be awarded in due course.
Steve Millard came a really close second with 7201 points and Andrew Howie third with 2893 points.
The full results are below.
As we have now moved outdoors, we will shortly publish a list of monthly target days.
As with last year we will rotate the rounds to include both metric and imperial rounds, and will give archers the opportunity to practice rounds in advance of external competitions. So keep a look out on the club calendar.
