Archery GB Indoor Nationals and Junior Indoor Nationals (6th-8th December)

Three Yelverton Bowmen archers travelled up to Archery GB’s Indoor Nationals competition in Warwickshire this December, with Corey Richardson, KT Pollington and Marilyn Wong all completing a WA 18m round.

Corey finished 77th of 101 during qualification in the Compound Mens category, outside of the head-to-head cut-off. Marilyn and KT came 15th and 18th respectively during the seeding round for the Barebow Women’s category, meaning that their first head-to-head round was against each other!

Marilyn won her first head-to-head against KT, before losing in the second round to the eventual winner who dropped only 4 points across the 3 sets.

Corey competed again on Sunday’s Junior Indoor Nationals as an Under-21 archer, scoring 563 out of 600 on a Portsmouth round and finishing in third place receiving a bronze medal.

South West and Wales University League Leg 3 (15th December)

Two of our archers, Corey and Marilyn, competed in Leg 3 of the SWWU university league. Corey placed second in the Compound Experienced Men’s division, scoring a 559/600 Portsmouth round, and Marilyn won the Barebow Experienced Women’s category by a margin of 196 points to 2nd place with a score of 518.

Archery GB Achievements

The winter edition of the Archery GB magazine recognised the following Yelverton Bowmen archers achievements:

  • Neill White – 50+ Longbow Grand Master Bowman
  • Gary Wong – Blue WA Star (Longbow) & Blue WA Target (Compound)
  • Corey Richardson –  Blue WA Target & Black WA Target (Compound)
  • Iain Lees – Black WA Target (Compound) & Blue Rose Award (Compound)
  • Alex Rowe – Grey Field WA Arrowhead (Recurve)

Well done to all of you. These are the kind of awards that are accessible to all of our archers if you take the plunge into competing in external competitions.

Bray 1 League

Running alongside the DCAS Portsmouth Postal and Frostbite Postal Competitions we are also running an internal club competition shooting Bray I rounds. The competition will run from the beginning of October to the end of March, and as such this means that all indoor shooting sessions during this period are considered to be club Target days. This means that archers will be able to shoot rounds and submit scores towards the Bowmen classifications.

Details for this competition can be found here.

Several archers have submitted qualifying scores and the tables will be published in next months report.

John,
Records Officer
