Beginners

Welcome to the beginners section. Here we’ll give you all the information you need to get up and running with the Yelverton Bowmen. This page wont act as a beginners handbook, but it will make sure you’re ready for your first lesson.

Safety

Safety is our primary concern and so before anything else you will be given a safety briefing. Most of what we will tell you is general common sense, however it’s important that you pay attention as it ensures that you and other club members remain safe whilst participating. We reserve the right to eject anyone from the club who we do not feel is acting in accordance with the club safety rules.

What do you need?

You wont need a thing! We provide all appropriate beginners equipment for you. When you come along for your first lesson you will be shown how to setup and use the equipment safely. Most beginners will continue to use this equipment for a few months after the beginners course, allowing them to get acquainted with archery before investing in their own equipment. We always advise beginners to seek the advice from an experienced archer before purchasing their own bow.

I already have a bow. Can I use that?

Yes you can, but during the beginners course we strongly recommend that you use the beginners equipment provided. Our course has been designed to run with this specific type of equipment as it allows us to match the bow to the Archer. After the course has been completed we can then assist you in setting up and using your bow.

What’s it going to cost?

Beginners courses cost £65* and run for six sessions. Whilst enrolled on the beginners course you will only be able to shoot on the single night when an instructor is present. For more details on what it costs to shoot with us as a full member please see the costs section.

Ready to enrol?

To enrol onto our course you will need to contact the club . They will be able to advise you on when our next beginners session will be held.
